a thousand years* i have died every day waiting for you, darling don't be afraid " FREE SMAPLES! TRY SOME FREE SAMPLES!" Weekends usually meant relaxing in bed, binge watching Netflix and eating snacks until you were so full you regretted ever waking up that morning. Weekends in Brookings also meant doing homework, checking in on Sebastian and enjoying the few breif moments of silence in the dorm's common room. Most of the kid's were gone by nine, or slept til noon, which meant Mak could enjoy three hours of time in the common room without being bothered. But instead, she was working. Dressed up as a cupcake. And offering free samples to anyone who walked by. It's official. I hate my life.Makyah couldn't exactly remember how this had happened. She had been looking for a part time job to occupy some of her free time, and baking cupcakes sounded like the best idea in the world. However, the pastry chef had decided that she needed to toughen up a bit in order to handle the stressful life of a cupcake maker in a small town. Which meant that Mak had to put on this ridiculous costume and get rid of all her samples by the end of the hour in order to prove her worth. She wasn't entirely sure, but she was pretty sure that the pastry chef was in fact crazy and needed to be locked up for everyone's safety. She also couldn't be too sure on why she actually went along with this stupid idea and got dressed up to begin with! She felt like an idiot standing outside the bakery with a brown cupcake with pink frosting costume on and a plate full of mini cupcakes up for grabs. And people weren't even going for the cupcakes! It was ridiculous, she had them sorted by flavor and everything. But people just kept walking by, like she didn't even exist. This is literally the worst thing that has ever happened to me. She put on a fake smile as another couple of students past her and nearly shoved the plate into their faces. " Free samples! Super tasty! You should totally just have one little bite! It's worth it!" Both of the girls giggled as they ran up the street a little ways, glancing back at her and falling into another fit of giggles. " Yeah, thanks... This is hilarious. I planned it all from the beginning. To be stuck in this costume, trying to sell cupcakes to idiots." Mak groaned and debated just throwing the cupcakes on the ground and walking away. But leaving a job undone was not her style, and even if she had to eat all these damn cupcakes herself, she was going to do this. She picked up one of the dark chocolate cupcakes with a strawberry buttercream frosting and threw it into her mouth. Wrapper and all. It only took her a few seconds to realize what she'd done and choke on her own stupidity. She lurched towards the nearest trash can and spit the entire cupcake out, coughing and spitting as best she could. Correction, that was the worst thing that has ever happened to me.TAG @open WORDS 519

| T he weekends were usually a time she would take to return to Heaven to give her progress reports, or just fly in general to clear her mind of the teachings she’d been giving to her students, or to shake the images of Jediah from her mind. Ever since she’d come down from Heaven to help him/monitor him, he’d been haunting her mind.
More importantly, she couldn’t shake off the hatred in his gaze when he’d first seen her wings.
So here she was, wandering around town. Wearing snug blue jeans and her black leather boots, a tucked in white tank top that showed off her cleavage and the locket she wore, under a black leather jacket and her fiery hair curling down her shoulders and back. She could feel the stares, both lecherous and jealous, over her looks and hair and ignored them with a boost of self confidence and a bit of disgust. All Angels were unnaturally attractive, enough to have the prophets writing of it for centuries to come, but sometimes it got to be a little too much for her.
It’s official, I hate my life.
The thought, powerful in tone as well as statement, slid across the edges of her senses and made the Angel stop in her tracks, turning in the direction of the unbidden thought. The voice was familiar, not in the tone or inflection but in the sense that she knew the person. Heading across town, she soon came across the bakery and its sweet scents of sugary baked treats. She smiled as she saw the poor mortal trapped in the cupcake costume until she turned and Mercy saw who it was.
Everything inside her felt cold, to the point where frost was coming off her lips. Yes, she indeed knew the voice that had rung inside her senses; it was Makyah, or her reincarnation, the love of Jed’s mortal life and the ideal that Mercy couldn’t make herself become. Makyah held Jediah’s heart and soul whether she knew it or not, whether she remembered or not. It was the first time that Mercy ever remembered feeling jealousy or anger turned towards a mortal.
However, watching the mortal pop a cupcake into her mouth, wrapper and all, made Mercy chuckle softly, putting aside her feelings for the moment. “I’ll take one, if you don’t mind. They look delicious.” A kind smile was directed to the girl after her words had been spoken.

a thousand years* i have died every day waiting for you, darling don't be afraid There were bits of wrapper and sprinkles still stuck to her teeth when she heard the voice. Turning her head didn't do much good, as the costume's hat made it impossible for her to see anything other then what was right in front of her. She quickly spit a few more times, trying to rid her mouth of what was left of the cupcake fiasco and then straightened up. The plate of cupcakes had somehow managed to survive, she'd only knocked over a couple of them and as she turned to face her first customer of the day she used the tips of her fingers to re-align all of them. " They are delicious! Organic and gluten free! Perfect for any occasion and we cater!" Mak had practiced the script in her head for hours the previous day. She wanted to make sure she could say it with her usual upbeat and perky attitude while also keeping a smile on her face and not messing up the words. Mak raised the platter towards the voice and finally had a chance to look at who was standing there. If it hadn't been for her current state of annoyance she might have dropped her plate altogether. The woman standing before her was beyond gorgeous. Her fiery red hair was something to behold and she wore her outfit well. Mak kept a smile on her face as she tried not to stare and drop her jaw in awe of the woman's beauty. She felt rather insecure standing next to her. Mak was on the shorter side, her hair rarely did what she wanted it to and she was wearing a large, over-sized cupcake costume. Perfect, I'll just throw myself off a bridge tonight. With the costume. Just gotta find a bridge. The frosting hat on her head slid off her hair and ended up covering one of her eyes as it tilted and hung there. She groaned inwardly, still holding the cupcake plate in the same spot she had it before. At least now she wouldn't have to look at the woman and be reminded of how pale she was compared to her. Mak rolled her eyes beneath the hat and with frosting covered fingers she managed to get the stupid thing back on her head. She could see strands of her hair coming out in all directions above her eye sight and mentally told herself to simply ignore it. For as long as she could. " Would you like another sample? Or maybe you'd like to order some for a party or for consumption later!" Mak was still trying to stay upbeat and perky, but the day was starting to weigh on her and she was close to giving up. She tried hard not to stare at the customer but found herself stealing awkward glances every now and then. After a moment she seemed to recognize her but couldn't remember her name. " Oh, aren't you a teacher at the school? Uh... Astrology, right?" She hadn't taken her class, but Sebastian was in it which Mak didn't understand until now. Staring at the teacher she finally realized why Seb would take a class he had no interest in. Inwardly she sighed and took a mental note to punch him later when she saw him.

| S he could feel the weariness in the mortal body before her, sense the annoyance at her predicament, and it made Mercy feel a bit foolish of being jealous of this mortal. Sure, she held the heart and affection of the one person Mercy trusted in her life, but this mortal didn’t realize just how giving and unselfish Jediah was. How lucky she was to have such a guardian watching over her. She ate the cupcake thoughtfully, enjoying the flavor.
Mercy was about to say something when she felt the girl’s awe kick in her gut. She also heard the words in the girl’s mind and it made Mercy sigh internally. She was tired of being the cause of envy, that’s why it was so much better with Jediah; he saw her, only her, not her face or her hair or her beauty. He saw a friend, a partner, and she missed it something fierce. Mercy waved her fingers behind her back, using some of her gift to hopefully fix the girl’s hair under the hat, trying to make them both feel better about the current predicament.
“You don’t have to pretend for me, Makyah. I can see you’re tired and about to drop off your feet,” Mercy said gently, taking another cupcake despite herself. “I am, astrology and astronomy. My name is Melisandé Sabriel, but you can call me Mercy outside of school,” she continued. Sure, this felt awkward, being nice to the girl that Jediah loved, but Mercy felt some sort of kindred spirit within Makyah. A flash of movement at the corner of her eye made Mercy turn slightly to see a man lounging against a storefront, wearing a long trenchcoat.
His aura didn’t bode well for the young mortal.
“Why don’t we go inside and we can go over the different flavors? You’ve convinced me to buy a dozen for later,” Mercy said with a kind smile as she subtly/not subtly ushered the girl into the shop. If anything, the man outside was a Hunter stalking Makyah, and Mercy would use all of her gifts to keep the girl safe.
