It was the afternoon. Getting closer to the evening with each passing second, and the several seated table tucked in the corner of the library was occupied by a single person and their stack of books. Not many people would place themselves in a position like this. So clearly detached from the rest of the world, but in a way that made them stand out even more. While Vincent did care very much about how people viewed them, they valued their personal space just a little more. The library seemed like a logical place to have as much of it as they might want.
They had always struggled with talking to other people their own age. So moving to an entirely new country to a place where they knew absolutely no one? Not too far from what they were used to. Listening while a bunch of teenagers gossiping to each other about other teenagers that they probably wouldn't meet. School was shaping up so far to be the same as back home, so there was no reason to be upset about the move itself. The only thing that was bothering Vincent about this change was the fact that their path had seemed so clear before. They were basically a crime scene investigator already, you know, without all of the qualifications or the legal right to actually investigate a crime scene. It was coming closer, and they certainly could have chosen any university that they wanted, but now they had to deal with this. Coming to terms with an aspect of themselves that they somehow weren't aware of before. It was hard to handle the fact that they were so sure that they knew themself, and that clearly wasn't the case.

What they did know? They loved reading, and that had been their escape from this new crazy world. Any downtime they had was spent in the library. Set up a stack of books and try to read them all before they had to leave. That was the goal. Mostly just the same detective/mystery novels that they had back home on their shelves, but that had never bothered them before. They currently were reading a copy of The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, with their headphones on. Only stopping to look around every once and a while just to make sure that they weren't losing track of time.
There hadn't been too many other students around today for whatever reason. So they didn't feel particularly bad for having their headphones on. They were barely loud enough for someone to hear the music playing, and Vincent certainly wasn't paying enough attention to tell if someone might be trying to get their attention. The library was meant to be quiet. The song that was playing now was fairly high energy, so it would be understandable for someone to be put off. Contrary to what people might assume, Vincent was a huge fan of modern hip hop music about as much as they were a fan of classical and twentieth century jazz. So their playlist was currently an odd mesh of Childish Gambino, Frank Sinatra, and Chopin. Anyone that disliked radical changes in music would probably be very annoyed on a long car ride. This is how Vincent preferred to experience things. Multi-tasking, variety in stimuli, it was the most relaxed they could allowed themself to be. And aside from keeping track of the ticking clock they were relaxed now. Putting off the worry until they had to lay back in their dorm and assess the day.
