ALEX IS LIKE A ROCK, dependable and unchanging, a born leader that survived through hard work. She possesses the charisma and she definitely has the determination. The girl harbors a special talent—the knack to keep up a strong front in the roughest of situations. Rarely does she break down, whether it may be a terrible night at the guild or a stress filled day tending to an ill friend. And that’s the secret to her—Alex tries her best to never let others feel hopeless. She’s not afraid to lead the way, it’s a part of what makes her so fearless at times. Her strength is quiet, subtle, because she doesn’t work to receive praise (although she does enjoy them). She genuinely wants to make the lives of those around her easier. Alex doesn’t mind carrying the burden of others. In fact, she welcomes it. It means that she is trusted and that is all she could ever want from another.
IT’S NOT A LARGE SECRET that Alex is one of the busiest of bees around. It is rumored that working is one of her favorite pastimes. She is hardworking, responsive and incredibly meticulous as a secretary—almost to the point where others would consider her a perfectionist the second she clocks in. Anything less could mean the end of Dick’s guild and she would hate herself if that happened. The most important thing to remember, however, is that Alex can be frightening while she is working. There is no appreciation for slacking off in her workspace and she isn’t one to remain polite when someone gets in the way of her job. She might openly critique others at the guild, but she only does it to prevent any avoidable mishaps in the near future. Outside of work, she is a much more relaxed and cheeky person.
DUE TO HER JOB, Alex is a silver-tongued individual. The girl is a rather bright, mindful soul and is seasoned in the art of weaving tales that pique the interests of those around her. Lying for Alex is second nature and frankly, she is numb to the guilt of lying. Be warned, she can be quite manipulative if she sets her heart on it.
THIS DOESN’T MEAN ALEX’S world is all sunshine and daffodils, however. Her insistence on being a rock for others has made her extremely prideful. She isn’t keen on letting friends into what troubles her and is more comfortable with carrying personal inconveniences on her own. The girl is scared of being seen as a ‘weak’ individual. This has led to her developing a fiery temper whenever she feels uneasy. She rarely trusts others. It is difficult for her to warm up to acquaintances and only a few individuals have ever managed to break the casing she has placed around herself.
SECRETLY, ALEX YEARNS for the presence of close friends. Sure, she has Dick but he’s more of a father figure than anything.Plus, he’s like a dinosaur. The girl adores the idea of binge-watching numerous television series on Netflix with a best friend or sending ‘I heart you’ cards to each other on Valentine’s Day. In truth, Alex is a closeted sweetheart and a romantic, but she’d rather die than let others find out about that side of her.
AFTER THE TOAST, Alex continues to be dauntless and collected. She is an individual that has an enormous heart, but struggles to let others see her for who she is. The secretary is ready to work herself to the bone for the guild, because she understands how rare second chances are in this unforgiving world.
`` FAVORABLE TO praise, fairy tales, cars and motorcycles, Netflix, chimpanzees (bonobos in particular) and monkeys, pastries (especially those with jelly in them), colorful balloons, random acts of affection
`` UNFAVORABLE TO spending money, being belittled, coffee, slackers, police
`` ENJOYS traveling, working, storytelling, driving, eating, devouring pastries
`` AFRAID OF being abandoned, losing RICHARD BRUCE ASHTON or loved ones, not knowing what to do, betrayal, dolls, never getting a chance to apologize to her mom

“I’m sorry, darling. Mommy has to go to work.”
Most people reckon that the life of an adolescent is blissful and carefree. Most of Alex’s childhood was spent noticing the absence of her mom and the lack of a father. She was raised in Chicago, Illinois by a single mother that had to work to keep their modest family afloat. Despite being an only child, receiving attention was a rarity for Alex and the house was always vacant—the ill result of her mom’s good intentions. Although her mother didn’t always have time to nurture her, she found little ways to send Alex proof of her love. One of those methods was bringing home documentaries that they would watch together. Another method was surprising Alex with sunflowers—her mother’s favorite kind of flowers—and planting them in pots around the house. It wasn’t much, but the girl felt the affection and was entertained thoroughly—particularly by documentaries ‘with the monkeys’. But throughout her days at the daycare and kindergarten, Alex felt detached from her peers. She grew up with documentaries and cartoons instead of people and kept to herself when elementary school had come along. At the age of eight, the child had become accustomed to being alone.
Unbeknownst to everyone, her loneliness became the catalyst for her gift. Whenever she would feel miserable, lonely or frightened, the colorful characters that she had watched on the screen would come alive and accompany her. The girl didn’t know how the animations came to life, but she didn’t question it. It was at those moments where she believed she had friends to rely upon. They became her companions that alleviated the discomfort of solitude. They told her to be upright and appreciative of what she had. They told her that they desired her to be happy. Their lessons became engraved in her heart and she locked away her sadness.
Due to her mom acquiring more hours at work, the girl made it her best interest to partake in meager forms of cleaning to ease her chores. At first, it started out as wiping the tables and counters. Eventually it transformed into mopping the floor, the occasional cleaning of dishes and even the cooking of simplistic meals. Although it was difficult, those moments where she brought a smile to her mother’s face made her days blissful and worthwhile. At the age of ten, Alex Chiu grew up faster than most children.
Near the beginning of her freshman year at high school, however, conflict had surfaced in the household. Her mother had developed a gambling addiction and exhausted their fortune. It became routine for Alex and her mom to argue every day. The girl had to get her own part time job to help pay off their debt. There never seemed to be the right balance; between the finances, social life, and family—it was all a disaster. The trust they had in each other unraveled completely. By this point, Alex spent more time conjuring characters from the screen than being with her mother when they were both home. She had started to get a grasp of her powers.
That was the year Alex’s life had taken a drastic turn for the worse. She socialized with the ‘delinquent’ crowd and found enjoyment in their schemes. At first it was pickpocketing, but then it started to escalate into bigger crimes. Either way, their activities became an outlet for her confusion and unhappiness. She felt that she was appreciated and that was all she could’ve asked for. Her time with the ‘delinquent’ crowd allowed her to practice her gifts as well—subtle illusions were created in order to help them succeed in their thievery. Although, she kept her powers a secret in fear of what they might think of her.
During her sophomore year, Alex had cemented herself as a notorious troublemaker. In fact, she even found herself in charge of a group of high school miscreants. Funnily enough, being a leader of a group of hooligans had only strengthened the girl. Alex learned to be observant, assertive, stern and watched over her group diligently. They ran the city amuck, but soon several members of the group had grown violent tendencies and it became harder to control them.
The most traumatic experience for her came near the end of the school year. She and her mother were fighting once again—this time over her curfew—and the melting pot of negative emotions was ready to spill. It started with excessive berating, more than what they had usually done. In an instant, the confrontation became physical. It was all a blur to Alex—broken vases and thrown silverware were scattered across the floor. Her mom yelled at her to get out and she did. After she left the house to cool off, the realization of what she had done hit her. Terrified and ashamed, the teen slept over at a one of her group member’s house and prayed that her mother would eventually call and tell her to come back home. Minutes turned into hours, days turned into weeks and Alex never heard from her mother once. Alex was heartbroken.
After the falling out with her mom, Alex found herself getting into more trouble. Eventually, one of her group’s nightly raids ended with a dangerous encounter with a local gang. In the face of danger, Alex’s companions abandoned her to fend for themselves. Through her attempt to escape, Alex met with her life savior, Dick.
Feeling as if she had nowhere else to go, Alex stubbornly kept herself close to her benefactor for the next few days. She fervently pursued him, pleading the man to take her with him. The girl didn't care where he took her. She just wanted to feel like she was needed. In a final attempt to win his favor, she showed him her gift of illusions. Fortunately, she had been a person he was in need of—she was given a new lease on life. And for the next five years, Alex lived for the guild and has no intentions of ever stopping.

`` ABILITY/POWER Alex can create and manipulate illusions. This means she can temporarily make her targets see what she wants them to see, hear what she wants them to hear and to some extent, make them feel what she wants them to feel. After years of utilizing her powers for Dick's guild, Alex has gained notable mastery over her gift. She has a proficiency in creating complex and realistic scenes due to her meticulous and diligent personality.
The downside to her ability, however, is that usage of the illusions requires an incredible amount of energy. On days where her ability is used, the secretary finds herself in need of at least double the amount of calories she would normally intake. Lack of energy would result in her passing out and the cancelling of her illusions.
`` STRENGTHS headstrong, charming, clever
`` WEAKNESSES temperamental, prideful, cynical/untrusting
