Baysil

Sweet and kind, Baysil is the kind of girl who does what she's told and finds pleasure in the little things in life. She's artistically talented and her kind nature shows in her paintings and drawings. While many look at her and see a soft, innocent and well-spoken lady, there are those who have witnessed and been privy to her darker side. When Baysil is in control she is very polite and well-mannered. She speaks softly so as to not appear overly excited and is cordial to those she meets. Rarely does she speak out of turn of burst out in anger or annoyance, and even under the most stressful of circumstances she remains poised and dignified.

Baysil rarely has a temper, but when she does people find it incredibly endearing. She's one of those who don't like to be angry or annoyed and finds the joy in every situation. So even when she's trying to be serious or angry she can't help but laugh and ends up frustrated with herself and others end up giggling along with her. She has a free spirit within her that she has to keep locked away from the world. It pains her to do so, but letting it free could prove disastrous for many people. Regardless, she doesn't allow her spirit to be diminished by anything (especially her mother), and keeps it hidden within the shell she's had to build around herself.

Ignorance is a trait that Bay shows quite often. She's very gullible when it comes to most things, and can be tricked into doing horrible things all the while thinking she isn't doing anything bad. She's so innocent to the way of the world, the sarcasm and the evils that seem to control many people. She takes everything literally and Bay relies heavily on her family and friends to help her understand the differences between right and wrong, perhaps one day she might be able to figure it out for herself.

When she knows she's right, however, she's extremely stubborn. She won't back down from a fight, even if she's scared of what the consequences might be. She's been beaten many times in her life, mostly by her mother's riding crop, and nothing scares her more. Should she get in an argument with someone aside from her mother she will not relent until either proven wrong or the other person admits she's right. With her mother, however, she tends to not fight as hard as she doesn't want to have another visit from her mother's favorite toy.

Above everything else, Baysil is trustworthy and honest. She never lies, and she never tells secrets. Her mind is like a steel trap, she never tells others secrets she's been sworn to keep. And she never lies about it either. She will just tell you that she can't say a word and that is all you'll get out of her. Her literal nature makes it difficult for her to understand sarcasm and lying, so she just doesn't partake.

Baysil fell asleep in the rocking chair.

Sayge

Sayge is very much the opposite of Baysil. She is full of anger and rage. The parts of Bay that she keeps locked deep down inside are brought out when Sayge takes over. It doesn't happen as often as it used to, but when Bay feels greatly angered or frustrated Sayge decides to come out to play.

Sayge is much less sweet and kind and more immoral and corrupt. Sayge relishes in the attention of men and women and throws herself into the arms of whatever wants her. She doesn't fear Baysil's mother, and works endlessly to break out from Bay's bubble. She drinks and smokes, and has sex with as many people as she can find. She swears and breaks laws and rules just to get attention. But once she's caught poor Baysil has to deal with the consequences.

Shallow is not as strong a word that is needed to explain the kind of selfish behavior Sayge portrays. Sayge is constantly taking from others and giving nothing in return. She enjoys stealing and inviting herself to things when she's obviously not welcome. She doesn't spend much time trying to make other people like her, she couldn't care less and lets them know it.

Mommy didn't see Sayge coming up behind her with the knife.

Rosemary

The other life that occupies Baysil's body is Rosemary. She's a motherly woman who takes care of both Bay and Sayge when she feels she needs to. Rose is always willing to take over and scold those who may be causing Bay or Sayge stress. She is someone beyond Bay's years, resembling closely to the mother that caused all this to happen.

Rose is very sensible and reasonable. She takes pride in her ability to be a level headed woman in a time when men are generally in charge. She is able to run a household and care for the children while also having a social life that is very active. She cares not for the petty things in life and works to make sure every aspect of her life is in check.

Strong and righteous, Rose is the kind of woman who knows what she wants and believes that God will give her the answers she needs to accomplish her goals. She carries a bible around with her in her purse and offers prayers to those she feels needs the touch of God in their life. Rose is the kind of woman who doesn't back down from a fight, she doesn't believe in fear when she has God on her side.

Baysil's story begins on a cold winter's night, just as the clock struck midnight, young Stephanie Hortique gave birth to a girl. Baby baysil was the first baby to be born in the year 1804. And in a small town like Glasgow, Montana, she was treated as quite the celebrity for her first year of life. Chervil Hortique, her father, was a respected trader, a farmer of sorts who grew herbs, vegetables and even some rare fruits for their town. He became popular in the late 1790's for his ability to cross-breed plants and create crops that survived through the harsh winter frost. Though he wasn't part of the "wealthy society" until after marrying young Stephanie. Stephanie was only a mere sixteen years old at the time of Baysil's birth and sadly was stricken with postpartum depression. Hating the baby and the attention she was rewarded with.

Baysil was raised as a young country lady. Learning to ride horses, work the farm, paint and dance and trained by her mother to be a good housewife for her future husband. Her mother was fairly cruel to her, hitting her with belts and riding crops when Baysil didn't perform to the ridiculous standards her mother had created. As she grew older, Mrs. Hortique came up with more, creative ways, to punish her daughter. One being locking her in a closet filled with mirrors. The mirrors scared Baysil to a point where she retreated into her own mind and Rosemary came to take care of her. Rosemary was her first personality. A sweet girl who was protective over Baysil and offered a strong will to deal with her abusive mother.

At first Bay didn't understand what was going on, she'd fall asleep and wake up days later with no memory of what had passed during the time she was out. It came to her mother's attention only a month or so after Rosemary manifested, and though she was still treating her daughter with the same cruelty, she also began to treat her worse. Hoping that Rosemary would come out in front of her. After a few weeks of relentless emotional and mental abuse, rosemary finally exposed herself to Stephanie, allowing the watchful mother to declare her daughter insane and mentally unfit. Which resulted in Bay being dragged from her home kicking and screaming.

First she was taken to the nearest hospital, unfortunately, being the small town it was, Glasgow Medic center was not equipped to help Bay in any way. So, wither her mother's urgent demanding, she was carted off to a larger hospital further south. Baysil continued to deny the existence of Rosemary, saying her mother was only trying to get rid of her out of spite. The doctor, with Stephanie's convincing (and money), decided to run a few tests on Bay.

They were simple tests at first, stress tests to see if they could make Rosemary appear. After awhile, with no results, her mother ordered more tests, ones that would put Baysil through pain instead of just stressing her out. The doctor, at first, declined, but as time went on he bowed to Stephanie's whims and put Baysil through more cruel tests. It was long before Rosemary came out to protect Bay from the torment. And once she did, everything changed.

Seeing as this was the early 1800's there wasn't much study on mental diseases, especially ones like multiple personality disorders. The doctors didn't know what was wrong with Bay and instead of helping her, ended up hurting her more. Priests were called to perform exorcisms, when that didn't work they resorted to sending her to an asylum and performing lobotomies and extreme tests that forced her to the edge of death and back again. It was at this time that Baysil began to notice there was something else going on with her. No matter what kind of damage was done to her, she healed extremely quickly. Her lobotomies were fixed hours after they had been done. However, this kind of strain started to take it's toll on Bay and even though she physically healed, mentally another personality started to form.

Sayge was less than pleasant. She didn't like being tortured very much and instead of being a protector, Sayge rebelled. She attacked and clawed at the nurses and doctors. She was violent and didn't give in to the pain that they put her through. As time went on she would calm down, but would strike when they least expected it. Sayge took over most of the time, Bay had no control over her body anymore. Sayge seduced orderlies and allowed herself to act in such ways that made most people cringe. After awhile, Rose took over, forcing the other two down until she was able to appear normal and fixed to the doctors and was sent home. Five years after she was first sent to the hospital she was finally free to go home.

Her mother wasn't too happy, even though Bay only sat in her room and didn't do much, Stephanie was still threatened by her. The torment started up again but Baysil was hidden inside while Rose dealt with it. However, Sayge would not be quieted for too long, and only a year after returning home she murdered both Stephanie and Chervil in their home. Afterwards, she disappeared, allowing Bay to come out and deal with the mess.

Needless to say, Baysil didn't know what the hell had happened, and when questioned by the police she was unable to give them any answers. Although she was covered in their blood, they couldn't get a confession out of her and Bay was sent back to the asylum. For years she sat in her dark little room, wondering who or what had killed her parents, wondering how any of this could have happened and why she didn't remember anything. It wasn't long until a doctor who actually studied mental disorders visited her and explained to Baysil that she wasn't alone in her body.

At first Bay didn't believe anything the doctor had to say, but eventually she noticed the black outs more and felt that the explanation she was given actually made sense. From then on she tried to use Rose and Sayge to her advantage. They worked hard to get out of the asylum again, and then they just disappeared.

For many decades, Baysil wandered the country working odd jobs and using Sayge to get the basic things they needed. She continued working like this until she found Masquerade Academy. Here she was around others of her kind, and even though Sayge has almost gotten her kicked out a few times, she has found a new home at the school.

Regenerative Baysil never seems to age, her body constantly regenerates itself to keep her looking young, regardless of how old she really is. When she's hurt she repairs herself (inside and out) rapidly. She's never sick, and she rarely feels any pain at all. This does not mean she will live forever, but she's able to live for a much longer time than most humans.

Compulsion Baysil isn't aware of this ability, only Sayge knows that she has the power to make people do exactly what she says. She could command people to sit completely still while she slowly cuts through their skin. They'd have no control over their own bodies. But Sayge knows how much this runs her down, and she only uses this ability when she really, really, really, wants something.
