Le Dick This is it, boys, this is war - what are we waiting for? Why don't we break the rules already? TAG @open WORDS eight six one NOTES I'll change the picture later. | Dick stared out over the water. It was so peaceful here, no annoying kids running around, no mysterious or supernatural crap happening at odd times. It was just man, water, and forest. Well, woods. Dick grunted, his hands tucked warmly in his pockets as a morning breeze whipped around him. Much like last year it was starting to get cold very early. Nevada was usually a hot place, but Brookings always had surprises in store for people. Dick had been here a few years, he'd been part of a team that investigated the disappearances of some of the students, and had come up with nothing. He had always hated not figuring things out. People made it seem that the kids had just gone home. Not many of them that attended the school actually lived here, and Dick could believe it, if it weren't for the fact that he knew the truth about the world. And he knew what kind of horrible things could happen to people. This morning he was standing on the bank of Keya Lake, his eyes staring dead ahead at the island in the middle of the lake. Luxe Island had been a place he'd yet to explore. There weren't many boats available in the town, which was odd considering there was a lake... In the town. But he had managed to find a canoe boat and would be taking it across the length of the water to the island. And he would explore the mysterious buildings there that had been closed off to the public for quite some time. Once he gave them a quick look over he's call in his rag tag group of hunters and send them over there to inspect more fully. Dick wasn't about to send them to their deaths, but he also wasn't going to let himself get dirty. With another grunt he pushed the canoe at his feet into the water, climbing in at the last second so that only the very tip of his beige trench coat was splashed with water. He sat down, steadying himself for a moment before using one of the oars to complete his push into the water. Once in he didn't row right off the bat. He let the water go it's natural course and carry him towards the middle, once he reached a point of no longer moving he got out the oar and sloppily rowed himself towards the beach on the island. He had never actually been in a canoe before, and he made Selby google how to row on the Youtubes earlier in the week. Which annoyed her, and annoyed him because he hated asking any of those kids for help. They always rubbed it in his face. Was it because he was generally a know-it-all and an asshole? More than likely. Dick ended up grumbling to himself, he wasn't one for manual labor, and he wished he had talked one of the guys to come along with him. Caje had grown up on the water, and Gio... Well, Gio needed to do something other than drink his life away. He reached the other side after about fifteen minutes or so and crawled, less than gracefully, out of the canoe and onto the shore. Dick pulled the boat up quite a ways onto the sand and rocks and prayed that it wouldn't suddenly float away, or get stolen by some hooligans he couldn't see. The last thing he needed was to be stranded on an island in a town with no boats, and sarcastic assholes for friends. He's be stuck there for days. He took out his phone and hit the home button, the screen lit up and two beautiful bars stared back at him. If anything went to shit, he'd at least have his cell phone to call for help. He needed to find someone who could boost cell strength in Brookings. There were always dropped calls and missed messages going on, and Dick didn't need that in his life right now. He put the phone back into the pocket of his trench coat and started to walk up to the tree line. He couldn't see much, even with the sun out the trees kept it pretty shady with their plethora of leaves and branches. He was going to have to be careful when he walked through, otherwise he might end up falling and break something. Grabbing at a tree branch he pulled himself up the embankment and into the trees. He wandered for awhile, taking in the scenery and enjoying the lack or bitching and whining he didn't have to hear. He was almost starting to enjoy himself when he came upon a stone building. More than likely part of the old prison that sat on the other side of the island. He stared up in awe at the design, it was definitely an old building, centuries is Dick had to guess (then again he was horrible at guessing ages of things). But he found it quite fascinating. Until he heard the crunch of foot steps behind him and whirled on the spot to find the source of the noise. |
