There was a quiet around her that made her feel completely alone. There was no breeze, no lights, nothing but the trees and the dead leaves below her on the ground. She hadn't been this far into the woods before, and she didn't necessarily enjoy being here. Especially when it was this dark... And quiet. She had been running, from something, she couldn't remember anymore, and had slipped in something a fell. For a moment it was completely black as she slipped in and out of consciousness. But now she was awake, staring up at the stars through the leaves of the trees and thoroughly confused as to where she was.
There was a soft pounding in her head, she had definitely hit something when she fell, and the thought of sitting up made her feel ill. No, she thought, she'd just lay here for a few minutes until she felt better. Otherwise she'd be stumbling about in the darkness and throwing up every couple of feet. My phone. She was starting to think more clearly now, her senses coming back to her slowly. All she'd have to do is pick up her phone and call her brother. He could be here in an instant and carry her back to the school with little effort.
Why was I out here? She couldn't remember. There was a figure, but she didn't recognize them, she had been following them into the woods. They needed help... No, they had something to show her. Why couldn't she remember? Makyah reached down her body to her right pocket, for a moment she didn't feel anything and her heart nearly stopped in fear. But after a moment of groping at her leg she finally found it and brought it up to her face. Hitting the home button she clenched her eyes shut against the bright light. The screen had been cracked and annoyance flared within her. But that didn't matter now. What mattered was getting a hold of her brother, or someone who could help her. Opening her contact's list she scrolled to his name and pressed call.
The sound was grating. She rolled her eyes when it went to his voicemail and clicked the screen off. Slowly, Mak sat up, closing her eyes and taking her time to do so. Her head swam for a moment and then settled into a hum of a headache. Reaching her hand up she touched the back of her head carefully and came away with clean skin. Oh thank goodness. She wasn't bleeding. Which meant she had hit her head just hard enough to cause a headache and hopefully nothing more. She shoved her phone back into her pocket and climbed her way to her feet, careful to take it slow so she didn't end up back on her butt. Once she was to her feet Mak raised her hand to the side of her head and applied pressure. It didn't really help, but she felt it was necessary for the size of a headache she was slowly approaching.
Now, where am I? Every direction looked the same. She could go straight into darkness and trees, or right into darkness and trees, or basically any direction and head straight into darkness and trees. Choices, choices. She felt a pang of annoyance as she stood in the middle of the clearing and found herself just staring into the trees. There wasn't a thing that differentiated any direction from another. She couldn't even see the lights from the school from where she was. How has she ended up so far from the school? Why had she been running? Why couldn't she remember? "Ugghhhh." Mak threw her arms up in the sky, regretting it immediately as her head started pounding.
Realizing she couldn't just stand around in the middle of the woods all night without freezing to death she choose a direction at random and started walking. For a bit she just walked aimlessly through the trees, the moonlight above lighting her path quite effectively. Until she reached a darker patch of trees and felt the need to pull out her phone to help her see her way through. Turning on the flashlight Mak held the phone before her and continued her trek. Determined to get herself back to her cozy bed before morning. She couldn't even remember why she was out so late past the curfew. If she got caught, she'd be in a lot of trouble.
The sound of dead leaves being smashed came from her right. Mak froze on the spot, shining her light in that direction and waiting. She couldn't hear anything else, no voices, or even breathing. "Hello?" She called out, hoping it was just a stray dog, or something that wasn't terrifying at all. She took a deep breath, "Hello? Is someone there?"

Ring, ring. Ring, ring.

Crunch.
